A blueprint for Ireland's first green city

Ballymore have unveiled a visionary masterplan for Athlone, a new, sustainable city designed to accommodate a population of 100,000 by the year 2040. As city master planners, we are proud to be collaborating with Ballymore on this important and visionary plan.

Athlone 2040 represents over seven years work with Ballymore exploring the potential to create a new green city that generates wealth for the region, but one that also delivers social, and environmental benefits for everyone in Ireland.

Ireland’s population is forecast to increase to over six million by 2050 and Athlone is strategically placed to become the country’s first non-coastal city. Athlone of 2040 will have transformed from town to city of over 50,000, built on education and green infrastructure. Laying the foundations for Athlone to grow to become an international exemplar of how future cities can be economically successful whilst at the same time delivering health and environmental sustainability.
