Edgbaston Priory Club
A sunken 1,000-seat centre court that extends to 2,500 seats for major tournaments was the focus of this expansion of one of the world’s oldest tennis clubs.
As well as the new grass show court, the club, which lies within the Edgbaston Conservation Area, required several interventions, such as the sensitive extension and refurbishment of the clubhouse with a roof terrace providing views over the surrounding parkland, a new grass show court, squash courts, gym facilities and a new eight-court indoor tennis centre. The indoor tennis centre is configured into two halls, divided by a spine of changing facilities.
The investment in the club’s facilities, partly funded by the Lawn Tennis Association, has helped to maintain this as a historic home for racquet sport, strengthening the pre-existing community of passionate members. Recently, we have worked with the club to develop its 2022–2030 Strategic Plan, focusing on sustainability, the members’ experience, and ensuring its future financial security.
