Building Design’s Retail and Leisure Architect of the Year 2025
We are delighted to have been named Building Design’s Retail and Leisure Architect of the Year 2025 for our work on Eden Dock for Canary Wharf Group, Hanbury Hall for the National Trust, and Tatton Services for Westmorland.
Together, these projects demonstrate our commitment to design excellence, environmental responsibility and cultural understanding—creating retail and leisure destinations that enrich their settings and communities.
The judges commented: “Howells impressed with a diverse portfolio and strong environmental ambition. The Eden Dock project re-greened Canary Wharf’s public realm with vision and care—setting a powerful example for sustainable urban transformation and earning recognition as a standout winner in the category.”
We are proud to receive this recognition. At Howells, we strive to design places that welcome people in—vibrant, engaging environments that celebrate craft, heritage and the everyday experience of use. From sensitive interventions within historic contexts to new destinations rooted in sustainability and wellbeing, we continue to explore how architecture can enrich the places where people come together.
