Trio of London schemes up for RIBA Awards

From affordable homes and riverside regeneration to restoring public access to water, three Howells projects have been shortlisted across this year’s RIBA London Awards.

Wembley Gardens (London West) for HUB was conceived as a pair of square-plan towers; the scheme delivers affordable homes for rent while reinforcing Wembley’s evolving town centre. Horizontal brick banding and ribbon glazing draw on the area’s Metroland heritage, combining civic presence with generous daylight and long views for residents.

The Brentford Project (London South West) for Ballymore — a joint entry with Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Maccreanor Lavington and Grant Associates — is also shortlisted for the RIBA London Awards. The masterplan reconnects the High Street with the river through walkable routes, active ground floors and robust, warehouse-inspired architecture that responds directly to its waterside setting.

At Canary Wharf, Eden Dock (London East) for Canary Wharf Group is shortlisted for the RIBA London Awards and has been Highly Commended in the RIBA MacEwen Award. Transforming a previously inaccessible dock into a layered public landscape of floating gardens, boardwalks and new habitats, the project improves connectivity, biodiversity and everyday access to water.
