Unite Battery Park

Unite Battery Park is a 418-bed purpose-built student residential scheme located on the Worcester and Birmingham canal in the heart of Selly Oak, Birmingham. For the local area, it provides a new public square and improved access for pedestrians and cyclists to the nearby Selly Oak Centre and Selly Oak Park.

Carefully considered to ensure its appropriateness to the canalside context, the 18-storey tower fronting Bristol Road is a landmark for the area. The design creates a building with elegant and refined detailing, housing an array of amenities to appeal to students and post-graduates studying at the University of Birmingham. The construction method we employed features an innovative structurally insulated panel finished in a richly textured brick.

The project is part of the wider Selly Oak Mixed-Use and Life Science Campus led by Harvest Partnership—an innovative joint venture between Land Securities and Sainsbury’s. The campus, when realised, will see the 30-acre former Battery Park site regenerated into an exciting mixed-use development. Crucially, the campus will provide a valuable economic boost for the area offering a wide range of employment opportunities.
