Woolwich Exchange
Woolwich Exchange will establish a vibrant new neighbourhood at the heart of Woolwich town centre—a place to live, work and enjoy.
A new quarter for Woolwich
Working alongside St. Modwen, Notting Hill Genesis and masterplan architects Panter Hudspith, our proposals form part of a wider vision for the area. Over 800 new homes, together with spaces for work, commerce and culture, will help establish a strong and distinctive community identity.
At the heart of the masterplan, the refurbished Grade II-listed covered market will be reimagined as a new home for Picture House Cinema, alongside a series of gallery and cultural spaces set beneath its historic roof.
East Phase
As part of the design team, our work focuses on the East Phase of the masterplan. Providing over 300 homes, our proposals comprise a pair of slender towers and a series of mansion blocks arranged around a shared garden space, set atop a stepped podium.
Addressing the north of the site, the towers form a new gateway to Woolwich when approached from the east. While the two towers share a close architectural language, they vary in height, plan and brick tone to create distinction.
To the south, the mansion blocks accommodate a mix of family homes and a significant proportion of affordable housing. Responding to the scale and character of the adjacent streets, duplexes are positioned on the ground and top levels.
Community facilities and connections
Within East Phase, around 2,750 square metres of flexible workspace and leisure uses will support local enterprises and encourage people to live and work within the area. Throughout the quarter, new public spaces and improved north–south pedestrian and cycle routes will connect the new quarter to its surroundings, linking to the town’s transport network and the emerging cultural district within the neighbouring Royal Arsenal.
