BD Private Housing Architect of the Year 2023

We’re delighted to have won BD’s Private Housing Architect of the Year 2023. We work closely with developers to ensure we create homes and places that enrich lives and sustain communities. We are fortunate to have completed several key housing schemes in the past year, with some of the country’s most visionary clients with whom we share this award.

Brick House, for Urban Splash and Places for People, is a distinctive terraced housing typology created specifically for Port Loop in Birmingham. While unambiguously contemporary, its familiar proportions reference Georgian and Victorian housing found across the UK and the character of historic waterside housing in Amsterdam, Bruges and Copenhagen.

The Mercian, for Moda Living, is a 42-storey build-to-rent tower in Birmingham’s tallest inhabited building. The Mercian is a marker of the new Birmingham, an elegantly orthogonal tower signalling the city’s resolute rebirth, its slender, subtly burnished façade provides verticality and elegance while offering unparalleled amenity space.

Currently under construction for MEPC, Octagon is the first pure octagonal high-rise residential building in the world. The tower will house 370 spacious city centre homes with uninterrupted views across Birmingham. Our design offers homes of individuality, with each apartment enjoying a generous 13-metre facet of the Octagon and a much larger-than-average outlook.

200 West Coast Highway, in Perth Australia, has been designed for developer Meadpoint, and will be a striking addition to Perth’s Scarborough waterfront. Working in collaboration with Plus Architecture, our design promotes natural ventilation through all homes at all levels by reimagining the conventional arrangement of apartments. The articulation of the four elements reinforces the plan with generous balconies to all apartments to provide private amenity and shading to homes.
