Straits Village

Straits Village is a 300-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme close to Nottingham city centre.

Arranged around an intimate courtyard and mews, the collection of crafted red brick buildings provides a campus environment where students can enjoy indoor and outdoor amenities. Accommodation comprises sophisticated private studios, shared apartments, and townhouses all on the same site, creating a unique and vibrant community.

Bounded by two-storey late Victorian houses and a linear warehouse building, our approach offers complementary scales, from a local marker block to a long warehouse typology to a mews townhouse setting. Built using traditional construction methods, the red brick language of a deep-modelled facade with brick piers, soldier heads, and extruded metal fin screens helps to articulate the scheme’s various building typologies.

Amenities are focused on the health and well-being of its residents and include health and leisure facilities, notably a top-floor entertainment space and viewing gallery. The landscaped areas, including a private landscaped courtyard, provide outdoor amenity space and help connect the residential community to the east with the city centre through an improved and animated streetscape.
